The South Group match of the Bob Willis Trophy between Hampshire and Essex will be played at the Arundel Castle in Arundel. This match starts at 11 AM local time (3:30 PM IST) (10 AM GMT). There is no live streaming of this match in India.
The cricket in England continues to roll on amid the pandemic and the fourth round of the ongoing Bob Willis Trophy gets underway on Saturday. In one of the South Group matches, the Hampshire will face the unbeaten Essex who have won all three of their matches so far. They defeated Kent by two wickets in a close game to start their campaign and then breezed past the Surrey comfortably before defeating Sussex in a thrilling encounter last week.
As far as Hampshire are concerned, they have recovered after losing to Sussex in their opening game. The team defeated Middlesex and Surrey in the next two rounds which keeps them in good stead ahead of the crucial game against Essex. Expect this to be a cracker of a contest between the two in-form teams.
Hampshire and Surrey played at the venue last week and it was a bowler’s paradise. 30 wickets fell for just 534 runs as Hampshire managed to register an innings victory. Similar pitch could be on offer and add to it, the overcast conditions. Spinners are also expected to wreak havoc at some point if the last match is taken into consideration.
Average first innings score: 298 (Only score of last match considered)
Felix Organ, Joe Weatherley, Tom Alsop, Sam Northeast (C), Harry Crane, James Fuller, Lewis McManus (WK), Ian Holland, Tom Scriven, Mason Crane, Bradley Wheal.
Nick Browne, Alastair Cook, Tom Westley (C), Daniel Lawrence, Ryan ten Doeschate, Paul Walter, Adam Wheater (WK), Simon Harmer, Aaron Beard, James Porter, Matthew Quinn.
James Porter is a top bowler for Essex and is in great form. He returned with eight wickets in the last game and overall has accounted for 18 scalps. On a surface which might assist the pacers more, Porter will be key again.
Simon Harmer is the highest wicket-taker for Essex so far. He has scalped 28 wickets in six innings already and is a decent batsman down the order. Harmer has mustered 79 runs as well and is the best bet for Essex again in this encounter.
Mason Crane is another interesting spinner to take part in this match. He bowled superbly against Surrey picking up five wickets in the match. Expect the Hampshire management to bank on him again.
Clearly, Essex have more experienced and match-winning players at their disposal compared to their opposition. The team has all bases covered for different conditions. Not that Hampshire will throw in the towel but they will go down after fighting in a close game.
Our Prediction: Essex are expected to win this game.
