Murali Vijay Comes in Support of KL Rahul Amidst Bad Form

India is all set to play against Australia in the ODI series starting later this week. In absence of Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul is an obvious choice to be the wicket-keeper. Ishan Kishan can keep as well but Shubman Gill is doing fine at the top and KL Rahul can flexibly fit down the order as well. This series will be India’s last series before the end of the international season. KL Rahul will have to give it all to have at least one good knock in the upcoming 3 games and has to do well in the IPL too.

KL Rahul was finally dropped from the side after the first two Border-Gavaskar trophy games. Shubman Gill was asked to open and the in-form player grabbed the opportunity with both hands. Amidst all the criticism for KL Rahul, former Indian opener Murali Vijay has come to the player’s support. The Indian opener has been facing constant trolling irrespective of being a part of the team or not. Murali Vijay has asked people to leave Rahul alone.

Vijay emphasized that these phases are an integral part of a cricket player’s career. In his view, Rahul should be given some breathing room at this moment rather than being criticized. In order to soon stage a successful comeback, he advised Rahul to use this time to concentrate on his fundamentals. “He [KL Rahul] knows what it is and what he needs to do to make a comeback. I think KL should be left alone and not be scrutinized the way they are doing at the moment. I think KL should take it easy and work on his basics and use this time to unwind himself and rejuvenate and come back strong,” he said.

In addition to speaking about KL Rahul, Murali Vijay also spoke about young players like Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw. He also praised Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer for their performances in the last couple of years. “If you are playing for India, you are already a superstar for me. But skill wise I really love Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw. They are top players. Rishabh Pant has done a great job for Indian cricket as well. I wish him a speedy recovery. Shreyas Iyer is doing well,” he added.
