IND VS WI LIVE: Ahead of India vs West Indies series, one question that plagued the cricket fraternity was how Virat Kohli will conduct himself on the field. Playing the first ODI, Virat put all the speculations to rest.

The former skipper was at his animated best as he displayed his aggressive side and celebrated wickets just like before. The fans also saw Kohli flaunting his leadership skills as he helped Rohit set the field and also compelled the skipper to take a DRS.

As the fans saw a glimpse of ‘leader’ Kohli, many in the cricket fraternity came up with their views and lauded the Delhi-born for his sportsmanship. Speaking about the matter, former Indian cricketers Ajay Jadeja said that Virat will always be a leader and the fans will see him in his element in all the matches. “He wasn’t a backbencher who became the captain. Even he was not the captain, he had leadership qualities. No one had told Virat to pick up Sachin Tendulkar on his shoulders after India won the 2011 World Cup.

“He’s always been a leader and I doubt if he holds back. His energy and mindset made him successful… and five people who have been appointed by someone else now feel that Virat’s not the captain. But his quality and skills are still the same. Players and selectors come and go but a leader always remains a leader,”

“It was good to see Virat being involved in the proceedings, which is a healthy thing for the Indian team. It’s good to see that he’s left behind things that have happened recently.

He must be thinking, ‘Though I’m not the captain, I am a leader. My role is to guide youngsters and support the current skipper’. His involvement indirectly hinted that he’s ready to leave things behind and carry the team forward,”

said Ojha.
