RCB Loses Another Game Ellyse Perry Backs Captain Smriti Mandhana
The RCB franchise is having the worst possible season in the WPL. The team has not lost 4 out of the 4 games they’ve played in the tournament. Each loss is worse than the previous one. In 2 games they’ve conceded 200+ runs and in the other two, batting first they could barely even reach 160. Captain Smriti Mandhana has struggled with the bat, especially facing spinners and the bowling line-up is the weakest amongst all the teams.
RCB faced UP Warriorz in the game on Friday night when Alyssa Healy’s 96 runs took UP to an easy 10 wickets victory. Batting first, the Bangalore franchise once again failed to capitalize on its strengths. Smriti Mandhana was dismissed on 4 runs by Rajeshwari Gayakwad. Sophie Devine and Ellyse Perry tried to build up a partnership that gave hope to the team. However, the happiness of the RCB team was short-lived with Devine heading back to the dugout. Ellyse Perry was the top scorer for RCB with 53 runs.

Ellyse Perry comes in support of Smriti Mandhana as RCB struggles to win
Speaking to the press after the game, Perry backed RCB skipper Smriti Mandhana and said that the opener will soon get back to scoring runs. “It’s a ginormous task to come into a brand new competition and play with a group of players that she has never played with before and try and make that all gel in a matter of a couple of days since she joined the group. I think she’s a great captain too. She just needs a chance to find her feet in the tournament and she will no doubt. But the bigger picture (is), it’s just going to mean we are going to see an even better version of Smriti after this,” Ellyse Perry said.
However, the fourth loss in the tournament has now nearly pushed RCB out of the competition. Prior to the start of WPL, the team was considered to be one of the strongest contenders to reach the playoffs but now looks like a distant dream. During the post-match presentation, Smriti Mandhana accepted the blame for the loss and said that the team would try to do well in the next game. With 4 more games to go, it is a do-or-die situation for the franchise.
