Meanwhile, a Facebook post by an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer about India’s Thomas Cup victory has sparked debate. Former Indian cricketer and social media user Amit Mishra slammed the IAS officer for what he perceived as an “insulting” and “disgusting” statement.

The IAS officer in issue, Somesh Upadhyay, had jokingly connected India’s Thomas Cup 2022 victory to the device of mosquito racquet, which has grown in popularity in recent years. He captioned, “Indonesian are surprised how Indians got better at badminton than them.”

The joke, on the other hand, did not go over well with Amit Mishra and a portion of social media users, who took to the comment section of Somesh’s post to criticize him.

“This is not only distasteful but also insulting to the achievement of our badminton heroes.”
