Sangakkara acknowledged the positive impact Root had on the team in a short time, expressing regret at the loss of his experience and extending best wishes for Root’s future endeavors.

Root exit From the IPL 2024

Root, secured by the Royals for his base price of INR 1 crore, played three matches during his stint but had the opportunity to bat in only one, where he scored 10 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

In a statement, the franchise highlighted the learning experience gained by players such as Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, and Yashasvi Jaiswal from Joe Root. The camaraderie shared with teammates Jos Buttler and Yuzvendra Chahal was also noted as a notable aspect of Root’s brief time with the Royals.

Root’s decision follows in the footsteps of fellow England player Ben Stokes, marking the second English cricketer to opt out of the upcoming IPL season.

Earlier this week, Mumbai Indians executed a historic trade by acquiring Hardik Pandya for a record-breaking sum of 15 crores. This transaction stands as the most significant trade in the history of the Indian Premier League.
