The Sri Lankan Cricket Board has sent a request of consent for the same to the participative teams. India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, host Sri Lanka and one of the qualifiers will be making their presence for the tournament. The final game will be played on 7th September 2022.
In 2018, India won the Asia Cup and since then the tournament has not taken place. The format of the tournament usually is either ODI or T20 international. According to the reports, the format has not been decided yet. Once the consent is received from the respective countries, Sri Lankan Cricket Board will work on the same.

The 2020 edition of the tournament was scheduled to take place in Sri Lanka itself. However, because of the Covid-19 pandemic, officials had to postpone it and pushed it to 2021. In 2021, the pandemic was seen at its worst and because of the same reason, it was pushed again. This year, with full support from Pakistan Cricket Board, Sri Lanka is all set to start the tournament.
Asia Cup 2023 will be hosted by Pakistan and the rights to the tournament have already been confirmed. BCCI Agrees to Play Bilateral T20i Series with Sri Lanka Before Asia Cup 2022
According to the reports from Cricbuzz, BCCI has agreed to play a bilateral series with Sri Lanka. The announcement came in considering the financial turmoil going on in the neighboring country. Sri Lankan cricket has suffered because of the same reason. However, India has decided to provide a helping hand to Sri Lanka.

This will help the Sri Lankan cricket board to sustain and help to continue the tours for their team. Australia is due to tour Sri Lanka for 3 T20Is, 5 ODIs and 2 Tests. Considering the current situation in the country, the authorities are reconsidering the tour. The dates for the India tour are not announced yet, but according to reports, it might happen before Asia Cup 2022.
As of now, Sri Lankan Cricket Board is trying to bring the Australian team onboard with the scheduled tour. Sri Lanka is also scheduled to host the Asia Cup 2022. It will be helpful for the board to play as much cricket and generate funds for the same.
