However, after the injuries to Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel, India faced another setback. Rahul Dravid, the Indian head coach, has returned positive for COVID-19. Thus, he hasn’t traveled with the team for the tournament. On Tuesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed this news through a tweet on their official Twitter handle.

On Tuesday, Indian players and support staff will travel to the UAE, but Dravid will undergo the mandatory isolation period. He can only join the team in Dubai after testing negative after mandatory five-day isolation. Thus, he will not be part of the high-voltage clash between India and Pakistan on August 28. However, the BCCI secretary, Jay Shah, also released a press conference and confirmed the news. He confirmed that Dravid has mild symptoms and is under the supervision of the medical team.

It is learnt that assistant coach Paras Mhambrey will be in charge of the team for the time being. But a decision on whether NCA head VVS Laxman will join the team in Dubai will be made later on Tuesday. A BCCI official confirmed,

“We haven’t taken a call on whether VVS will be going to Dubai from Harare or not. A call will be taken accordingly, and if required, he will join. Till then Paras Mhambrey will be in-charge. All other members are fit and left for UAE early in the day.”

Notably, in the absence of Rahul Dravid, Laxman took the duties of the head coach on the Ireland and Zimbabwe tours. Most of the Indian players have made their return to India after the ODI series. On the other hand, the likes of KL Rahul, Deepak Hooda, and backup players Axar Patel and Deepak Chahar will directly travel to the UAE.
