At the mid-innings break, it looked like Australia would chase the target easily. But after the break, the duo of Trent Boult and Matt Henry demolished the Australian top order, picking up the first five wickets cheaply. Australia were at 44/5 in 12 overs. But then came the match-winning partnership of 158 runs for the 6th wicket between Alex Carey and Cameron Green, which turned the match in Australia’s favor. Although they lost three quick wickets in the end, they got over the line. Carey scored 85 runs, while Green remained unbeaten on 89* off 92 balls.

AUS vs NZ: Glenn Maxwell took a one-handed stunner – Watch

Apart from good bowling, the Australian fielding was equally good, especially the catching. Notably, apart from taking four wickets, Maxwell also took a stunning diving catch of New Zealand’s opener Martin Guptill. The moment came in the fifth over of the first innings, when Mitchell Starc came out to bowl. He bowled a good-length ball to Guptill.

The ball swung and took the outside edge of the bat and flew towards the point. Maxi, who was fielding there, dived to his left and caught the ball one-handed. It was an incredible catch and everyone on the ground was surprised to see that. Maxwell made the difficult catch look simple.

Speaking of the match, Aaron Finch won the toss and decided to bowl first. For the Black Caps, Devon Conway (56), skipper Kane Williamson (45) and wicket-keeper batter Tom Latham (43) played some good innings. With this win, the hosts have taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The second game will take place on Thursday, September 8 at Cazaly’s Stadium.
