It is a record-breaking day in BBL. In the 56th match of the contest between the Melbourne Stars and Hobart Hurricanes, several records broke as the Melbourne Stars scored the highest total and Glen Maxwell scored the highest individual score in BBL history.

Maxwell’s record-breaking innings

The Melbourne Cricket Ground was taken by storm when Stars captain Glen Maxwell blasted his way into the game. The opening pair of Joe Clarke and Glen Maxwell started the innings cautiously. In the first over of the innings, the opening pair scored just seven runs, without scoring any boundaries. However, second over onwards, they went berserk. The pair took on D’Arcy Short to score 21 runs in the second over. There was no sparing for Sandeep Lamichhane, who came in to bowl the third over. Lamichhane was hit for 4 boundaries to gather 18 runs from his over. The pair seemed relentless and hammered almost every bowler at the same rate. The Stars suffered their first loss in the seventh over. Josh Kahn deceived Joe Clarke to miscue a shot and get him caught way within the ropes at long-on by Will Parker. Clarke scored 35 of 18 balls with three 4s and one 6 to his name.

Glen Maxwell, however, continued his glittering show from one end. Nick Larkin joined Maxwell to take the innings forward but he perished early. On the last ball of the 11th over, Jordan Thompson removed Larkin cheaply at a score of 3 runs.

Marcus Stoinis’ Blitz

Marcus Stoinis joined the played on the same tunes as Maxwell. Both wrecked havoc for bowlers and hit the ball into all corners of the park. Although Maxwell did the bulk of the scoring, it was Stoinis who put the MCG on fire. In his stint of 75 runs off 31 balls, Marcus Stoinis hit 6 sixes and 4 fours and scored at a daunting strike rate of 241.93.
Maxwell, on the other hand, dealt more in boundaries than sixes. He hit 22 fours and only 4 sixes in his record-breaking innings of 154 runs. This is now the highest individual score in the history of BBL. It is the first 150 plus score and the second fastest hundred in the history of the tournament.
