Hobart Hurricanes – 2020-21 Performance

Hobart Hurricanes started on a good note in the tournament last year but because of some reason their performances got derailed in the early stage of BBL10. They finished 6th on the point table and lost their last league match against Melbourne Ranahgades. Because of their net run rate they were not able to make it to the eliminator fixture. Hurricanes were missing the attacking attitude in their bowling lineup. It was clearly visible that their bowlers gave away easy runs in some of the crucial matches in the last season.

Hobart Hurricanes – Changes from Last Season

Hobart Hurricanes have not made some major changes in their squad. Tim David came out as a rising star in the last year’s BBL. Skipper Matthew Wade is available to lead the team this year as well.

Harry Brook, Yorkshire pacer Jordan Thompson, and Nepalese leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane are also on board with the team. James Faulkner, the left-arm spinner, has been released from the team and is replaced by Australian seamer Joel Paris.

Batting

Hobert Hurricanes are filled with some of the best batsmen in BBL. Singaporecricketer Tim David has been signed with the team and he has already shown his performance in the last season of Big Bash League. He is a young gun and will be willing to perform again for the Hurricanes. Matthew Wade will be responsible to handle the pace attack for the team in the starting overs. D’Arcy Short and Ben McDermott are perfect hard hitters who can smash the ball outside the ground. Peter Handscomb is not a typical T20 batsman but he has the ability to rotate the strike in the middle overs. Harry Brook and Jordan Thompson will be acting as the hard-hitting death-over specialists. They both hit 36 sixes between them in this year’s T20 Blast and Thompson hitting a six every 7.25 balls.

Bowling

Riley Meredith will be handling the pace attack for Hobart Hurricanes. He has a proven record and has taken 16 wickets in two of the last three seasons. Meredith carries the ability to bowl at the speed of 90mph. Nathan Ellis will be his assistant who will support him with his experience in IPL. Joel Paris, from Perth Scorchers, has been added to the squad. He is a crucial left-arm pacer, who can be an asset in the middle overs. The young Nepalese spin talent, Sandeep Lamichhane, will be handling the spin attack for the team. Will Parker, who was part of two games in the last season, is also an asset to the team and can support Sandeep in the middle overs.

Problem Areas

The major problem which Hurricanes might face can be with the opening partnership. Both Wade and Short are left-handed and this might lack the variations for the team. Their squad has two many hard hitters but very few strike rotating batsmen. This might create a problem as they might lose wickets too early. In the bowling department, except Sandeep, there is no other name who carries the ability to take control in the middle overs. Their pace attack lacks the ability to take wickets and except Meredith, no other pacer has experience of taking wickets at the early stage of the game. Check the bbl score at the SCG.
