The threat of a potential Covid-19 scar is looming over the ongoing 2021–22 edition of the Big Bash League. The deadly virus can prove as a roadblock in the successful completion of BBL 11. On Thursday, December 30, the authorities were forced to postpone the Melbourne Stars vs Perth Scorchers contest.

The two teams were scheduled to play against each other in the 27th match of the T29 Championship, however, it has been postponed due to the covid-19 pandemic. Just before the commencement of the game, it was revealed that a member from Melbourne Stars coaching staff has tested positive for the virus,

Following the news, all the players underwent an RT PCR test and its results are awaited. Meanwhile, the authorities decided to postpone the game to a later date keeping in mind the safety of the players and other members involved in the league.

Speaking about the entire situation, the General Manager of BBL, Alastair Dobson revealed that they had no option other than canceling the match. Talking about both the teams, Perth Scorchers have done considerably well in the competition as compared to Melbourne Stars. Scorchers have been unbeatable in the tournament so far. 

The team carried the momentum from the last season this year too as they won their first six league matches. Perth tasted defeat for the first time in BBL 11 in their last match as they were hammered by Sydney Thunder.

Perth ended up with just 166 runs in their allotted 20 overs while chasing 200 to lose the game by 34 runs. With 21 points to their name, the team is currently second in the points table.

Melbourne Stars, on the other hand, have already faced a lot of ups and downs in BBL. The team has so far won three league games while losing as many to sit at sixth place in the points table with ten points.
