BBL 2021-22: Team Previews: Melbourne Renegades
Melbourne Renegades – Preview
Big Bash League season 10 was not a great season for Melbourne Renegades. With just four wins in the previous tournament, they finished last in the point table. Skipper Aaron Finch was questioned because of his team’s form. He had to step down from the captaincy although the reasons were completely different. His recent form in the T20 world isn’t great as well & hence the team must be worried about their batting lineup.

Melbourne Renegades – 2020-21 Performance
Renegades finished at the bottom of the point table in BBL season 10. They struggled to win matches throughout the tournament. They were awful with their bowling performance. Pacers from Melbourne Renegades were struggling to pick wickets across the tournament and their spinners were a complete failure to bring the run rate down for the opposition. Their batting lineup struggled throughout the tournament to score big numbers. Except for skipper Aaron Finch, no batsman was able to score big. Here’s the update of Melbourne Stars battle.
However, in the new season, they have done some big changes to the team which includes their coach as well. So fans must be hoping that this year Renegades won’t fail to impress.
Melbourne Renegades – Changes from Last Season
With a new coach, David Saker, a new captain, Nic Maddinson, and a brilliant overseas player, Unmukt Chand, Melbourne Renegades will be hoping to make an impact this year. David Saker has made a comeback as a coach for the team. He was associated with Renegades in season 5 as well. The first thing which Melbourne Renegades will have to work upon is to boost up the morale of the players and give them a feel of a new start. Finch has been a star player for the team, since he is not a captain now, he will be available to focus on his own performance. He will have to think about how his performance will give other players to perform at par. Unmukt Chand has a proven record in the T20 format. He can be a big asset in the middle order. New Skipper Nic Maddinson will be working together with the team this year.
Batting
Melbourne Renegades have few power hitters who have proven their worth in the T20 format. Mohammed Nabi, the Afghani batsman, can be a big scorer for the team. He has the ability to change the course of the match at any point in time. Nabi has played an important role with the club by scoring 625 runs at a strike rate of 129.67 and taking 25 wickets. At number 3, wicketkeeper Sam Harper can be a solid hitter for the team. He already had a good season last year in BBL10 even though the team was not able to perform up to the mark. Mackenzie Harvey, the youngster, and nephew of former Australian all-rounder Ian Harvey, had a good last season, averaging 28.28 in 10 games. Although he was not able to score any fifties last year and this year he can act as a finisher for the team.
Bowling
James Pattinson and Kane Richardson are two local heroes of which Melbourne Renegades can make full use of. This duo can be deadly and have the ability to break early partnerships. Jack Prestwidge and Will Sutherland will also be part of the pace attack and they both can help the team to lower down the run rate in the middle overs. For spin attack, Renegades will be relying on Mohammed Nabi and his Afghani teammate Zahir Khan. Melbourne Renegades also have Cameron Boyce, who was once described as the best leggie after Shane Warne.
Problem Areas
Marcus Harris has been named for the Australian team and he will be playing for the Ashes. This will be a major concern for Renegades. One major issue which Melbourne Renegades are facing is that they are mostly dependent on experienced players to score runs for the team. The youngsters are not at all trustworthy. If their experienced duo Finch and March fail to score, this might be a big problem for the team. Topley and Pattinson are prone to injuries. If they suffer from an injury in the middle of the tournament, Renegade’s bowling lineup will get dismantled. Read our full review on betway app here in our website.
