BBL 2021-22: Tom Curran Ruled Out of Tournament Due to Back Injury
The defending champions, Sydney Sixers, have suffered a massive blow in the ongoing 2021-22 edition of the Big Bash League. Sydney’s injury woes continue as after the spin duo of Ben Manenti and Steve O’Keefe, it is English all-rounder Tom Curran who has been ruled out of the tournament.
Ben Manenti suffered a neck stress fracture and has been ruled out for the upcoming few matches. The spinner will be undergoing treatment for the same in Hobart. Steve O’Keefe, on the other hand, has been ruled out of Sydney Sixers’ upcoming match against Adelaide Strikers.
The spinner strained his calf on Wednesday as Sixers secured a seven-wicket victory over Melbourne Stars at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Meanwhile, the major shock for Sixers has come in the form of Tom Curran.
The all-rounder has been ruled out of the remaining of the Big Bash Live 2021-22 after suffering a troublesome hotspot in his back. Curran is all set to jet off the United Kingdom at the earliest for his rehabilitation.

The defending champions will dearly miss the presence of Curran in the matches to come. So far, Tom Curran featured in a total of four matches this season, picking up five wickets at an average of 18.00.
He was expected to play a crucial role both with the bat and the ball just like he did during the 2019-2020 edition. Curran was the highest wicket-taker for Sydney in 2019 while he had given the last season a miss due to the restrictions imposed by the coronavirus.
To lose players of the caliber of Tom Curran would be a challenge for any team: Moises Henriques
Sydney Sixers
Losing three players to injury has come as a major setback for Sydney Sixers. Cricket betting sites in India believes that it will be tough to cope up with the absence of Tom Curran but the franchise has a strong bench strength to overcome the challenge.
“We pride ourselves on being a club and a team that embraces challenges but to lose players of the caliber of Tom and Ben, and to have SOK on the sidelines, would be a challenge for any team, and those guys aren’t simply replaced,” Henriques said.
The skipper believes that it is the opportunity for the other players to step up and exhibit their talent to the cricket fraternity. At present, our online cricket betting tips is that Sydney is atop the standings with three victories off four league matches.
“On and off the field, all three of those guys play a massive role for us and their presence around the team and skills on the field will be missed by everybody in the group. But for us, we always look to have 18-match ready players in our squad, and we see it as an opportunity for others within our group,” Henriques added.
Skipper Moises Henriques is still backing the Sixers to continue to set high standards on and off the field despite a series of injury blows to the squad.

Further, the skipper mentioned that players like Lloyd Pope and Mickey Edwards definitely deserve to play and the absence of main players will provide an opportunity to find a place in the playing XI. Moises affirmed that there is no need for any panic in the team.
“We also saw Ben Dwarshuis return from injury this week, Jackson Bird isn’t too far away, and Sean Abbott is back after the birth of his daughter, so there is no need to panic,” the captain concluded.
