Border Gavaskar Trophy: Rahul Dravid hints at Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma skipping the Ranji Trophy

However, Indian head coach Rahul Dravid has also shared his views on the senior players playing in the Ranji Trophy. He also said that it might not be possible for them as the build-up for the upcoming BGT series will start early and the Indian think tank will not be able to release the players for the Ranji. In the pre-match media conference ahead of the third and final ODI against New Zealand, Dravid said,
“Obviously, in the build-up to a big tournament like that, we won’t be able to release any players but when the series starts and an opportunity presents itself where someone is not playing and is required in the semifinal or final then we will certainly look at it. We have already agreed that the selectors will not be touching anyone playing the quarterfinal of the Ranji Trophy.”
However, since the conclusion of the T20 World Cup in 2022, Virat and Rohit haven’t been part of India’s T20I squad. Some media reports also confirmed that India is looking beyond these two. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya has led the Indian T20I squad in the absence of Rohit. He is the front-runner for the Indian captaincy for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Furthermore, Dravid added that he is not at all aware of any split captaincy for Team India, and you need to ask this question to the Indian selectors.
