“Certainly…”- Faf du Plessis spills beans on Virat Kohli’s participation in the T20 World Cup 2024
There have been a lot of media reports going around confirming that the Indian cricket board would drop Virat Kohli from the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. The BCCI is planning to promote youngsters at the coming World Cup. Notably, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have not played a T20 international match since the semi-final exit of the team in the 2022 edition against England in Adelaide.
Virat even asked the board for a break from the upcoming white-ball leg of the South Africa tour. Hence, some reports confirm that the BCCI will discuss with the former Indian captain his T20I future. He will be replaced by Ishan Kishan at No. 3 in the shorter format. Though there is no official confirmation of it, nothing can be said.
RCB skipper Faf du Plessis on Virat Kohli’s place in the T20 World Cup 2024
Notably, Virat Kohli is part of the two-match test series against South Africa starting on December 26. After that, India will host England in a five-match test series, which will be followed by a long IPL season. Virat’s place in the team will depend on how he performs in the IPL 2024. If he fails, he might be axed from the T20 World Cup squad. Meanwhile, his RCB teammate and captain, Faf du Plessis, shared his opinion on this topic.
In a recent interview, Du Plessis said that he is sure that Virat Kohli will play in the coming World Cup because it is just a few months away. The RCB skipper said, “Yeah, I think so. Certainly, if you look at the staging right now. The T20 World Cup is not far away. So it feels like everything is within reach. But knowing Virat very well, he wouldn’t want to miss out on the opportunity of the T20 World Cup, to get the trophy.”
The upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 will take place in USA and West Indies and will start on June 4. Team India have not won an ICC tournament since 2013 and are desperate to win the title. Virat Kohli was the highest run scorer in the last edition in Australia, and he is also the leading run scorer in the shorter format with 4008 runs. It will be a massive decision to sit him out of an ICC event.
