SA20 League: Quinton de Kock Appointed as Skipper of Durban Super Giants
Durban Super Giants has taken the decision to appoint star South African batter Quinton de Kock as their captain for the inaugural season of South Africa’s new T20 competition- SA20 league which will begin next year in January.
The franchise on Monday confirmed that de Kock will be leading the team in the first season of the SA20 league. The Durban Super Kings team is owned by RPSG Group, which owns Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL. Quinton de Kock, Jason Holder, Kyle Mayers, Reece Topley, and uncapped Prenelan Subrayen were the five players signed by the Durban-based franchise in the SA20 League ahead of the auction. Out of the aforementioned five players, three already have been part of the RPSG family. De Kock, Holder, and Mayers were part of the Super Giants team that made its debut in IPL 2022.

The wicketkeeper batter has captained the side as he had a short stint where he led the team in 4 Tests, 8 ODIs, and 11 T20Is. The dashing left-handed batter knows how to give the team a rollicking start which is quite invaluable in modern cricket. In overall T20, he has amassed 8497 runs to his name with an average of 33 and a strike rate of 138.

De Kock Excited for the Inaugural SA20 League
“Pretty much it’s a new tournament, so, I guess looking forward to the unexpected, we’ve had a couple of these tournaments, and there hasn’t been one in a while. A lot of youngsters who haven’t been part of the big tournament will be involved in this, so it will be good for the new guys and obviously for the guys who’ve been around in serving cricket. This is also new for us, so, this would be amazing another new comp, so I can’t wait,” said Quinton de Kock, speaking in an interview with the SA20 League.
The inaugural season of 33 matches is set to run until 11 February with the final set for the Wanderers. The much-anticipated SA20 blasts off with an exciting Western Cape derby between MI Cape Town and Paarl Royals at Newlands on Tuesday, 10 January. Each of the six SA20 franchises will have five home and five away matches, with games played every day, including eight double-headers spread around the country. Durban Super Giants is all set to clash against Johannesburg Super Kings on 11th January.
