“It’s clear that no Indian player including domestic players can take part in any other league until he is retired from all forms of the game. If any player wants to take part in these upcoming leagues he can only do so when he cuts off all ties with the BCCI,”
a BCCI official told The Indian Express.
Although, MS Dhoni is a retired player from every international format. But as per a BCCI official, he will need to retire from IPL also to become the mentor of the CSA T20 league. Once he became the mentor of CSK’s new team, BCCI will not allow him to play in IPL. Hence, CSK has only two paths ahead of them. One, they can retain MS Dhoni as their main CSK team. Second, if they can convince Dhoni to take retirement then he can be the mentor of both teams.

CSA T20 League: Former Cricketers on BCCI’s Restriction on Their Players
In 2019, an incident took place where Dinesh Karthik issued a formal apology to the Indian board. He went to watch a CPL match. The former Trinbago Knight Riders’ head coach, Brendon McCullum had invited him to watch a game from their dugout.
After that, the foreign players raised a question about BCCI’s restriction on their players. Former Australian cricketer, Adam Gilchrist has also raised his question on the BCCI’s bewildering stance of not allowing any Indian players to play any foreign leagues. He also stated that he just wants the logic behind this move of BCCI.
“I’m not criticizing the IPL, but why won’t Indian players come and play in the Big Bash league? I’ve never had an open and honest answer. Why are some leagues accessing every player in the world? No Indian player plays in any other T20 league,”
he had said.
