The IPL teams bought all the six teams of the league in the auction. Chennai Super Kings Group acquired Johannesburg, and Mumbai Indians owners bought Cape Town. Rajasthan Royals group bought Paarl, while Delhi Capital owners JSW group bought Pretoria. Sunrisers Hyderabad owners Sun Tv have acquired Gqeberha ( formerly Port Elizabeth), and the last team of Durban is owned by the RPSG group who owns Lucknow Super Giants.

The league is permitted a window of January and February by the International Cricket Council (ICC). With the IPL teams acquiring all six teams, the league can also be called a mini IPL. The Indian players will not be featuring in the tournament as they’ll have to cut ties with BCCI to play in the league. So only retired players who are not on a contract with any IPL team can participate.
Here’s the first group of players for each team:
1. MI Cape Town
Mumbai Indians are leading the chart when it comes to IPL titles, with five trophies. They are the most successful franchise of the IPL. Now, that they have a team in South Africa’s league, they will look to continue the same trend with MI Cape Town. The MI Cape Town have released their first set of players which includes the Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada and the uncapped young gun Dewald Brevis. 2. Pretoria Capitals
The owners of Delhi Capitals, JSW Group have bought the Pretoria team. They are all set for their global expansion with CSA T20 League and UAE’s ILT20. Delhi Capitals have done well in the last few years, and the owners will hope that this team also choose the same track. Pretoria Capitals have signed two players in the first group- South African speedster Anrich Nortje and Migael Pretorius.
3. Johannesburg Super Kings
Jo’burg Super Kings is owned by one of the successful franchises of IPL, Chennai Super Kings. Chennai has won IPL four times, and their Jo’burg team will also try to do the same. Jo’burg have signed the former South African captain, Faf Du Plessis and youngster Gerald Coetzee. The International picks of the team are Moeen Ali from England, Romario Shepherd from West Indies and Maheesh Theekshana from Sri Lanka.
4. Paarl Royals
The Rajasthan Royals-owned franchise is Paarl Royals. Recently, RR group has also bought the Barbados team in CPL. Paarl Royals have signed South African hitter David Miller and youngster Corbin Bosch. They also have two international players, Jos Buttler from Englan and Obed McCoy from West Indies.
5. Durban franchise owned by RPSG Group
The owners of the new IPL team, Lucknow Super Giants, have bought the team, Durban, in CSA’s T20 League. They have retained their IPL player in this league. Quinton De Kock, South African wicket-keeper batter, will play from the Durban franchise. Jason Holder and Kyle Mayers, who were a part of Lucknow, will also play for the Durban team. England’s left-arm seamer Reece Topley and an uncapped South African, Prenelan Subrayen, will also be playing for Durban. 6. Sunrisers Eastern Cape
The one-time champions of IPL, Sunrisers Hyderabad owners Sun TV has roped in the Port Elizabeth franchise in CSA T20 League. They have many players to sign from around the world, but they have signed only Aiden Markram and Ottneil Baartman (uncapped). Marco Jansen, who played IPL 2022 from SRH, hasn’t been signed yet.
