Dinesh Karthik feels India will take a lot more from the first Test than England
Rain played spoilsport in what was supposed to be a blockbuster Sunday with the first Test between India and England tantalizingly poised. India had the advantage going into the final day requiring just 157 more runs to win with 9 wickets in hand. England, on the other hand, too had a chance given the challenging conditions. India had a lot of positives from the game. The way Indian bowlers bowled, the knock that KL Rahul played, Virat Kohli certainly would be happy with the performance. Wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik, who is in the commentary panel for the Test series, feels India would be happier of the two sides after the 1st test.
“I think India definitely had the upper hand going into the final day. India will take a lot more from this game than England would – overall they played a very good brand of cricket,” Karthik told Sky Sports.
One of the major concerns India had going into the Test was the form of Jasprit Bumrah. The pacer had been going through a rough patch and was criticized for poor show in the WTC final where he failed to pick a single wicket.
However, the champion bowler displayed impeccable skills in the Test and picked up four wickets in the first inning, helping India bundle out England for 183 before backing it up with a five-wicket haul in the second inning. Karthik lauded the efforts of Bumrah and said he set the tone for India to dominate the Test.
“Bumrah set the tone in the first over, setting up Rory Burns the way he did, the bowling unit was good and I thought the batters came in with a lot of intent,” Karthik added.
The teams now move to London for the second Test at the iconic Lords Stadium from August 12-16.
