However, it is still not clear whether the 35-year-old will feature in the match or not. There are still a few clouds of doubt over his availability for the match. It will be a big question for the management whether the skipper will be able to play continuously for 4 hours or not. On the other hand, it would not be a surprise if the management will decide to give him the rest from the match after looking at his health progress.

Notably, he will go through a cardiovascular test, which is mandatory. That will almost clear his posibility for the match on Thursday. This media report is based on a statement by a BCCI official. He said,

“See he had suffered from a bout of COVID. He needs time to recover. He has started training, but will he play 1st match or not, it depends on his fitness. Coach and Rohit himself will take a call on the same. We are hopeful he should be ready.”

The Indian selection committee has named two different sides for the three T20Is. One side is for the first match because a few players who are part of the fifth test are given a break. Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and Shreyas Iyer are those players. While these players will be back for the second and third games of the T20I series.
