ENG VS NZ: With five wickets taken on the first day of the play at Leeds, England has gotten off to a fantastic start in the third and final Test against New Zealand. Early on in Brendon McCullum’s tenure, who joined from Kolkata Knight Riders of the Indian Premier League, England benefited from their aggressive style. Although McCullum hasn’t given many interviews since taking the position, he recently did so with Senz Radio in New Zealand to discuss the impact of the dressing room’s cultural shift and how new captain Ben Stokes’ thoughts for the new era of English cricket mesh with his own. “I think where Stokesy’s at in his career, and his aspirations as a leader and where he sees his team needs to go, it aligns beautifully to his personality and also to mine. The danger probably was that we’d be too similar.”

McCullum discussed the idea of how he and Stokes interact with one another. He emphasized the significance of realizing that neither of them is flawless and the importance of striking a balance between their respective goals for the England team’s success.

“So understanding that we’re not the perfect products either, but I think being able to bounce off each other and to also push each other towards the danger, as well because sometimes even you have doubts.”

ENG VS NZ: Ben Stokes As Captain Of England

In the second Test match against New Zealand, England pulled off an amazing victory by chasing down a big target on the last day. Before the game began, McCullum claimed that he reiterated the captain’s remarks in the locker room and that this had wonderful effects on the team.

“I was echoing the sentiments of the skipper really, his messaging has been incredibly powerful and simple, trying to remove the fear of failure. I couldn’t have asked for a more receptive dressing room than what we’ve had in the last two Test matches. But a lot of that is down to the skipper, his way and his methods are very much aligned to mine”

Currently playing New Zealand in the series’ last Test match, England will thereafter play India in a white ball match with McCullum not serving as head coach. For more cricket betting odds and scheduled matches for the 2022 season, read here.
