ENG vs WI: Fast Bowler Mark Wood Got Injured in the First Test Match. Will He Play in the IPL?
ENG vs WI: England are on a tour of the West Indies for three Tests and five T20Is. The first test match between both teams is underway at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua. And at the stumps on Day 3, the home team is leading the first innings at 373/9 in reply to England’s 311 all out. And the third day was a battle for the English bowlers under the hot sun on a flat pitch. But the worst part of the day for England was the injury to their main pacer, Mark Wood. Here are more latest cricket betting tips and guides for the upcoming match.
A total of 90.1 overs were bowled during the course of the day. The home team scored 171 runs for the loss of five wickets. Middle order batsman Nkrumah Bonner scored his second Test century to help his team cross the score of the visitors. As England was one bowler short, the West Indies grabbed that chance, and their lower order kept on adding some vital runs. Wood was only able to bowl just five overs the entire day.
ENG vs WI: Mark Wood suffered from Elbow injury on Day 3
The fast bowler didn’t come out with the team in the morning session due to some injury complaints in his elbow. However, he later joined the team, but bowled only five overs. He bowled four overs with the old ball and only one over with the new one. And as per the team management, they were hoping that the 32-year-old would bowl later in the innings. But later, the management confirmed that the pacer could not bowl in the first innings of the match.
It is still doubtful whether Wood will be able to bowl in the second innings as well. But if it happens, then it will be a big set-back for the visiting team. Broad and Anderson have already been dropped from the test series. On the other hand, both all-rounders, Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes, are suffering from their own bowling form.
Wood is used to bowl at high 90s however, the other English bowlers are slow in pace. Hence on pitches in the West Indies, the 32-year-old provides some variety in the bowling attack. And now with this injury, it will be difficult for England as they are already facing many issues in red-ball cricket.
Wood is in doubt for the IPL as well
At the IPL auction, Lucknow Super Giants bought Mark Wood for a price of INR 7.5 crore. And now, as the IPL is two weeks away, it is a big question for the franchise whether they will get the services of this fast bowler or not. However, it is yet to be confirmed officially by the English camp about his injury. So we can hope for the best. Looking for more Cricket betting odds for the 2022 season? Read more here on our site.
