Umesh Yadav who was at NCA recovering from a thigh injury has been called up as the replacement for Mohammad Shami. Nearly after a year’s wait, Shami was included in the India T20 side but won’t be a part anymore. Prior to the first game between India and Australia in Mohali, Mohammad Shami’s Covid report came positive and he was replaced by Umesh Yadav. Yadav, also, hasn’t been a part of the Indian T20 side since 2019. Last he was seen donning the blue jersey versus Australia, 3 years ago. Looking for India’s best betting sites? Speaking on his selection, Umesh mentioned that it was a great feeling to be back. “I like to think that I am pretty fit for someone my age and I am bowling well too. It feels good to be selected for the country, just looking forward to contributing whenever I get the chance,” Umesh said in an interview with journalist Vimal Kumar.

Umesh Yadav in nets ahead of Ind vs Aus game

The Indian pacer had received his maiden county call-up last month. He represented Middlesex in the Royal London One-Day Cup and also took a 5-wicket haul. Umesh Yadav was one of the few players from India playing county this year. He was excited to get the opportunity. However, he couldn’t complete his tenure with Middlesex. The fast bowler was sent back to India immediately after his injury.

“You could say that I was lucky because not many matches were happening in India because of the rain, so got lucky with the Middlesex offer. I knew that only practising and not playing any matches won’t amount to anything. When you play, your body remains in that environment, your muscles stay loose and you are more agile. I was enjoying my county stint, the weather in England is good,” he added.

Umesh Yadav was away from white-ball cricket for nearly a year after playing for RCB in 2020. In the 2022 IPL mega auctions, the KKR franchise bought the player. This year, Umesh Yadav wasn’t just economical for his team but also was the early wicket provider. Adding him to the team strengthens India’s fast bowling lineup and also brings much-needed experience. Mohammad Shami, on the other hand, will now have to wait till the series with SA to make his comeback. Shami also is on the reserve list for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
