Hanuma Vihari appears to be rethinking his decision to play for Madhya Pradesh in the upcoming domestic season. The India batter had previously announced he would not represent Andhra again due to alleged political interference in team selection. Vihari made these allegations in February after Andhra’s Ranji Trophy campaign ended with a defeat to Madhya Pradesh.

In an Instagram post, Vihari claimed he was forced to step down as captain after the first game of the season against Bengal, citing political pressure. He felt humiliated and embarrassed by the incident and vowed never to play for Andhra again.

Recently, Vihari received a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Andhra Cricket Association, allowing him to play for another team. He had been requesting this NOC for two months but only received it recently. “I have been asking for NOC for two months, mailed them four times. Didn’t give my NOC. Now things have turned, they have issued my NOC immediately,” Vihari wrote on X.

With the NOC in hand, it was expected that Vihari would join Madhya Pradesh. However, Madhya Pradesh head coach Chandrakant Pandit has confirmed that Vihari has decided not to join the team. Vihari informed Pandit of his decision, which left the coach and the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) disappointed.

“He has backed out. I got a message this morning that he will not be playing for us. It’s unfortunate but we can’t help it,” Pandit told CricketNext. The MPCA was awaiting Vihari’s NOC to finalize the paperwork, but the document never arrived, and Vihari eventually communicated his decision to Pandit after a week of no responses.

“I have been trying to speak to him for the last 5-6 days but wasn’t able to talk. I then dropped him a message and he called back last evening and said he would update me. This morning I got a message from him that he will not be able to play for us,” Pandit added.

This is the second consecutive year Vihari has turned down Madhya Pradesh, leaving MPCA officials unhappy. Vihari had initially approached Pandit following his fallout with the Andhra Cricket Association but has now opted not to join the team.

Interestingly, Vihari’s post about receiving the delayed NOC is no longer available on his social media. There is speculation that he might reconsider staying with the Andhra team following recent political developments in the state.
