‘I Switch Off The TV After a Point’: Ravi Ashwin
ENG VS IND: Ravi Ashwin, the legendary cricketer for India, admitted that he steers clear of watching 50-over matches on television because he thinks the one-day format is in danger of becoming obsolete. The teams focus mostly on T20 as the T20 World Cup, which is planned for October, draws closer. Additionally, Ashwin highlighted his worries about the future of One Day Internationals. Test cricket saw a comeback due to England’s spectacular run-chases under the direction of new head coach Brendon McCullum. Ravichandran Ashwin On The ODI Format
“The greatest beauty of one-day cricket is – sorry, was – the ebbs and flows of the game. People used to bide their time and take the game deep. Even as a cricket badger and a cricket nut, I switch off the TV after a point. And that’s frankly very scary for the format of the game.”Ashwin told the Vaughany and Tuffers Cricket Club podcast
Ashwin has played for India in 113 One Day Internationals and is a consistent component of the Test squad. The spin-bowling all-rounder, who has taken 442 Test wickets, was absent from India’s most recent one-off Test match against England. But is famous as one of the country’s all-time top spinners. In Ashwin’s perspective, the format of 50 overs no longer maintains a balance between the bat and the ball. He said when he voiced his opinion on the subject.
“It’s Not Cricket Anymore”: Ravichandran Ashwin
“When those ebbs and flows go missing, it’s not cricket anymore. It’s just an extended form of T20. It’s a question of relevance, and I think ODI cricket needs to find its relevance. It needs to find its spot.”Ashwin said

Due to the two teams’ spectacular T20I series performances, the opening game of the upcoming ODI series between India and England was eagerly awaited. When Indian bowlers dismissed England for just 110 runs and stopped their batting in the 26th over, the game did not appear like an ODI. Since the next 50-over World Cup isn’t until 2023, all the teams are concentrating on the next T20 World Cup.
The 50-over format has recently lost all relevance due to the introduction of T20 cricket and the franchise-based business that goes along with it. Over the past few years, the number of competitive ODIs has drastically decreased. The powerplay format has undergone some minor improvements, but many changes must be made before it can be successfully revived.
The ODI World Cup Super League was a strategy used by the ICC to increase the format’s relevance. However, due to the tournament’s format, only multi-nation competitions like the World Cup and the Champions Trophy may serve as safe havens for the ODI format.
