Women’s World Cup 2022: India had a 1-4 ODI series loss away to New Zealand prior to the World Cup. Despite losing the series, their batters scored some important runs and are in good form heading into the first game against archrival Pakistan. Mithali said the loss to New Zealand wouldn’t be a factor as they were looking to play with permutations, combinations and improve as a team.
“What we are looking at improving as a team for the World Cup is something we worked in the last series and before that. Yes, there was a bit of concern during South Africa and England tour. By the Australia and New Zealand series, the team has come around well to score above 250 consistently. We look forward to doing the same during the World Cup, probably much better than that,”
Raj concluded
Mithali Raj will be playing her sixth World Cup. She made her ODI debut against Ireland in 1999, scoring a brilliant century. She has since been a mainstay in India’s batting lineup, and she also holds the record for most runs scored in Women’s One-Day Internationals. Mithali is hitting the peak at the right moment as she accumulated 235 runs in the 5-match ODI series vs New Zealand. She will be the vital cog in India’s middle-order in the World Cup.
