IND VS AUS: Akash Chopra Disagrees With Ravi Shastri on Preparing Rank Turner Pitches

IND VS AUS: India will take on Australia in the first test at Nagpur starting February 9th. A lot has been spoken about what kind of pitch will be available for first Ind vs Aus test. The opinions are divided because some are of the opinion that it should be a rank-turner while some believe it should be a batting pitch. India’s former coach Ravi Shastri is in favour of rank-turning pitches for Ind vs Aus.

In his new video, disagreeing with Ravi Shastri, Akash Chopra explained that the turning pitches are more about luck. Chopra’s opinions were mirrored by RP Singh as well. In order for the batsmen to play well, the surface should have proper bounce with some support for the spinners, and it shouldn’t be a mediocre turner. The turning pitches will make it difficult for the batters and the Ind vs Aus contest will not be an exciting one.

IND VS AUS: Akash Chopra was certainly not happy with the remakes of the former Australian players asking for fair pitches. The well-known analyst noted that the visitors’ victories during their recent Ind vs Aus games in India have been on the pitch with some turn in them. The Australian side has 4 spinners and the likes of Nathan Lyon as well as Aston Agar are likely to play Ind vs Aus Nagpur test.

“Ravi Shastri has said that the ball should turn from the first ball itself. Rank turners are not something that I would personally subscribe to because the contest becomes even if the pitch turns more. Luck plays a bigger role there. The Australian guys are asking for the matches to be played on fair pitches, that if the matches are played on fair pitches, they will compete. By the way, what are fair and unfair pitches? The pitches you are calling unfair surfaces, the only Test match Australia have won in the last two or three tours was on such a surface,” he said.

During Australia’s last tour to India, the visitors were able to win 1 out of the 4 Ind vs Aus games, and 1 ended in a draw. Since 2015, there have been 3 test series between the two sides and all 3 have had the men in blue lift the trophy.
