Mohammad Azharuddin, in an interview with PTI, outlined the reasons why the hosts cannot currently stand to leave a talent like Yadav from any squad. Suryakumar Yadav earned the call-up for the Indian side in 2021 after his diligent performances in the Indian Premier League. IND VS AUS: Mohammad Azharuddin backs Suryakumar Yadav to do well in test matches
IND VS AUS: “When the player is in form, it’s not right to have them on the bench. Suryakumar Yadav has the potential to play for the Indian team in all three formats. He has also done well in his last Ranji match. After a long time, India has got such a batsman who can play in all formats,” Mohammad Azharuddin said.
In December 2022, Yadav had expressed his desire to represent India in the longest format of the game. Apart from Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan also is part of the squad. “Ishan Kishan has been selected in the Indian Test team on his recent form. I think he will be a stronger contender for the wicket-keeper batsman option. He is a left-handed batsman,” he added.
The Ind vs Aus series beginning on February 4 is an important series for India. India’s place in the finals of the World Test Championships will depend on these 4 matches. Rishabh Pant’s unavailability is a big blow to team India. It is highly possible that Ishan Kishan might find a spot for himself as the primary wicket-keeper batsman.
