IND vs ENG: “Jason Roy and Jos Buttler Can Breathe Easy”- Michael Vaughan on the Decision to Drop Bhuvneshwar Kumar From the Team
IND vs ENG: After winning the three-match T20I series, India and England will move to the three-match ODI series. The first ODI will kick off on Tuesday, July 12 at Kennington Oval, London, at 5:30 pm. However, it will be a totally different ball game all together because England will get the services of their main players that were rested from the T20I series. The home team will welcome Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, and Ben Stokes to the team. That will surely boost the confidence of the English batting line that looked lacking in the first two T20Is. On the other hand, it will be a big challenge for the Indian team as the veteran Indian pacer, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, is not part of the ODI squad. So the visitors need to find a way to take wickets in the power-play in order to restrict strong England batting. However, Mohammed Shami, Prasidh Krishna, and Shardul Thakur will be back in India’s ODI squad. Arshdeep Singh, who made an impressive debut in the first T20I, is also part of the squad.

However, after performing really well in the first two T20Is, the decision to drop Bhuvi from the third game backfired on the team, and as a result, they lost the match because of the inexperienced bowling attack. Zaheer Khan and former English skipper Michael Vaughan also questioned the decision to drop the veteran pacer. In a discussion on Cricbuzz, Zaheer said that India should use their best resources in every match. He added that Umran Malik tried hard but was bowling in one area. However, he concluded that India should have given a chance to Bhuvi because he doesn’t play red ball for India and needs the game time.
On the other hand, Vaughan also had similar views and was “surprised” by that decision. He also said that the English openers will feel at ease because the pacer is not part of the Indian bowling attack. Vaughan concluded,
“Jason Roy and Jos Buttler can breathe easy. When they come out to bat today as they don’t have to face Bhuvneshwar Kumar. I am surprised they have gone with so many changes. From a player’s perspective, you wanna play, you want to be in form. Bhuvi is in form, Hardik is in form.”
As a result, England posted a big total of 215/7 in their 20 overs. Indian bowlers were taken for runs. Dawid Malan scored a brilliant 77 off 39 balls. Chasing the target, India fell short by 17 runs. Despite an incredible century from Suryakumar Yadav, India lost the match. He scored 117 runs off 55 balls. Apart from him, all of the other Indian batters struggled.
