Ind vs NZ: Kapil Dev Wants Selectors to Back Hardik Pandya Irrespective of Results
There have been several occasions wherein players are either sacked from their position or get dropped. However, Kapil Dev has asked the new selection committee to not do this to Hardik Pandya. After Hardik Pandya’s successful stint as the captain of Gujarat Titans, he emerged as the best candidate to lead India. He has done fairly well so far but may also see difficult days. India has won the Ind vs NZ ODI series and now it’s time for Hardik Pandya to continue in the T20s.
Speaking about Hardik Pandya ahead of the start of the Ind vs NZ T20 series, Kapil Dev mentioned that keeping in mind the long-term option, BCCI shouldn’t threaten to demote the player if he fails sometimes. India has only lost two games under his leadership so far. Additionally, Pandya’s contribution as a bowler after his injury recovery cannot be disregarded. Along with the increasing trajectory of Hardik’s batting, he has established himself as the team’s go-to bowler if a wicket is needed.

Hardik Pandya to lead men in blue in the Ind vs NZ series
“I think one shouldn’t look at the world. You look at your team and your way of thinking. If Hardik Pandya is there, they should not say if you lose one series, we will remove you. If you make someone a captain, you have to give him a fairly long rope to make sure he will start performing. He will make mistakes but they key is that you don’t see the error but focus on whether he is ready for taking the team and look for the future. You don’t go series-by-series,” Kapil Dev said.
After Virat Kohli gave up his captaincy in January 2022, Rohit Sharma took over as the full-time captain. However, despite this, the men in blue were playing musical chairs with the captaincy. It was expected that after Rohit, KL Rahul would take charge of the team. However, Hardik Pandya emerged out of the blue. BCCI has made it clear going ahead in the T20 format, only younger players will be part of the side. It’ll be interesting to see how Hardik Pandya makes his team.
