And then, Shubman Gill showed his class with his successive ODI century, making it even more special with a double ton. Gill smashed a 144-ball double hundred against New Zealand in the first ODI on Wednesday. He scored 208 off just 149 deliveries, including 19 boundaries and nine sixes. With his knock, he became the fifth Indian batter and 8th overall to touch the 200-run mark in the 50-over cricket. Adding to that, he also became the youngest batter to do so in ODIs.

Moments after Shubman Gill’s 200, a three-year-old Rohit tweet went viral on social media. It was the tweet of Rohit’s 33rd birthday when Gill wished him, “Well no one does pull shots better than the #Hitman Happy Birthday! @ImRo45.” Replying to that Rohit tweeted, “Thanks future.”
It couldn’t have been much better timing for the tweet by the Indian skipper. And Shubman Gill has now established himself as an important member of the team. He has been in the form of his life and has grabbed every opportunity with both hands. During his 208-run knock, he also became the fastest Indian to score 1000 ODI runs.
Shubman Gill took just 19 innings to do so, breaking the record of Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan, who took 24 innings to do so. India won the first game by 12 runs and has a 1-0 lead in the series. They will lock horns in the second game on Saturday in Ranchi.
