Earlier, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) reported that Madushanka, who made his debut in the first game in Guwahati, dislocated his shoulder while attempting to stop the ball in the inner ring. He could only bowl six overs and didn’t return to the field as he was immediately taken for an MRI and X-Ray. In his maiden ODI appearance, he got the prize scalp of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma.

Before the start of the game on Thursday, the official Twitter handle of Sri Lanka Cricket gave the update before the start of the second game on Thursday. The release said that Madushanka was not available for selection as he continues to recover from the shoulder injury.

“Team Updates: Sri Lanka Tour of India- Dilshan Madushanka will not be available for selection for the 2nd ODI, as he is still recovering from the injury he sustained during the 1st ODI. #INDvSL” tweeted Sri Lanka Cricket.

The visitors have had to make a couple of forced changes to their playing eleven for the ongoing match as alongside pacer Dilshan Madushanka, Pathum Nissanka was also ruled out to an injury concern. Debutant opening batter Nuwanidu Fernando and express pace bowler Lahiru Kumara have been given opportunities in place of Nissanka and Madushanka. Dasun Shanaka announced the changes after winning the coin toss.

“We’ll bat first. Very good wicket to bad first, also looking at the venue stats. Important to score, be relaxed, and play our natural game. Two changes – Madushanka (shoulder injury) and Pathum Nissanka out (stiff back), Nuwanidu Fernando gets a debut and Lahiru Kumara is back,” said Dasun Shanaka during the toss.

Left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who won a match award in his last international match last month, has replaced Chahal in India’s playing eleven for this match. This was the only change for the home side with India making no change in the batting department. Chahal was ruled out due to a sore right shoulder. India will be looking to win this game and clinch an unassailable lead in the three-match series.
