Dinesh Karthik Believes Shardul Thakur Will Be Part of the WTC Finals Squad
England will be hosting the WTC Finals meaning that the wickets available will probably provide assistance to the fast bowlers. This is India’s second WTC Finals and the team will certainly make the most out of this chance. However, all is not good for the Indian side with 2 key players Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant being unavailable. Moreover, there is suspense over the participation of Shreyas Iyer as well since he is likely to miss the first half of the IPL.

Assessing the conditions well, Indian veteran wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik suggested that Shardul Thakur might come back for the WTC Finals. Explaining the reason behind his comments, he mentioned that the fast bowler could be an addition to the bowling unit as well as he can bat too. Karthik further continued that despite having a great series R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja will not be able to play together in the WTC Finals.

Shardul Thakur to replace Axar Patel in the WTC Finals says, Dinesh Karthik
“To be brutally honest if everybody is fit, especially if Ashwin and Jadeja are fit, you will have to say that Axar will miss out. I think Shardul will take his place. Absolutely (India might play either Ashwin or Jadeja). To be honest, that’s where the Indian team made a mistake last time playing both spinners and they didn’t bowl them much. It’s a year-end match for a lot of the players in many ways as after that there will be a fresh cycle. So you have to go into the match thinking ‘what is my best XI to win that game?” he said.
India lost their previous WTC Finals to New Zealand. The rain-interrupted game at Southampton saw India batting first with Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli being the top scorers in the first innings and Rishabh Pant in the second. However, New Zealand had the target of 139 runs and was able to reach the score with 8 wickets becoming the winners. This year’s WTC Finals will be played at The Oval from the 7th to the 11th of June with a reserve day on the 12th.
