Team India’s star all-rounder Hardik Pandya led the Indian team in Rohit Sharma’s absence in first India vs Australia ODI. The game in Mumbai was Pandya’s first ODI as the skipper. Hardik Pandya has proved himself in the T20 format as a leader and did the same in the ODI format against Australia.

“Whenever you watch Hardik Pandya play, he plays in a different way. Not just playing, watch him walking in the afternoon, he has a different vibe. He is always aggressive, so when you look at the playing XI, who were the bowlers, Shami, Siraj, be it a good or bad day for him, that’s different,” Ajay Jadeja said on Cricbuzz. “Then he has kept Kuldeep, then he himself bowls aggressively. This is Hardik Pandya’s style. This is attacking style, it won’t bore you. It will bring back your interest in ODI cricket,” he further added.

It’s worth noting that Hardik Pandya was spot on with his bowling changes during the first India vs Australia ODI. Pacers Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj bowled a brilliant new ball spell and then Hardik rotated the two spinners really well. He himself came in to bowl at the right time and grabbed a wicket too.

Even when Aussie opener Mitchell Marsh was looking dangerous, Team India’s stand-in skipper kept on looking for wickets. Marsh was dismissed after scoring a scintillating 81 after which the Indian bowlers dominated throughout the innings. Hardik constantly used attacking fielding positions in order to attack the Australian batters.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma is back in the Indian squad after missing out in the first due to personal commitments. It would be interesting to see when will Hardik Pandya get another chance to lead the Men in Blue in the ODI format after proving himself as a leader in the T20 format.
