It’s worth noting that left-arm fast bowlers like Trent Boult and Shaheen Afridi were able to easily get rid of Virat Kohli in the past couple of years. Getting out LBW against the inswinging delivery has been the most common mode of dismissal.
As mentioned by Kaneria, Virat Kohli will face Mitchell Starc in the World Test Championship final at the Kensington Oval in England beginning on June 7. The conditions in England will further support the mighty left-arm pacer.
The Indian team management usually carries multiple net bowlers along with the main squad for mega ICC events. Kaneria’s suggestion of using T Natarajan as a net bowler ahead of the WTC 2023 final can prove to be worth considering the recent failures of the Indian top order against left-arm pacers.
Along with Virat Kohli, skipper Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul too have faced issues against the inswinging deliveries by left-arm pacers. Trent Boult used this strategy against the Men in Blue in the 2019 ODI World Cup and 2021 World Test Championship final. Shaheen Afridi too got successful with the incoming delivery to Indian right-handed batters in the 2021 T20 World Cup.
