IND VS AUS: On the last day of the drawn fourth Test between India and Australia in Ahmedabad, India’s stalwart Virat Kohli hogged the spotlight, not for his batting but for taking a jibe at umpire Nitin Menon for one of his decisions which didn’t go in India’s way. It took place after Travis Head survived an LBW appeal, as Umpire’s Call came to his rescue and denied India a much-needed wicket.

India batter Virat Kohli is a sort of character who is always involved in the game in some capacity. Even if he’s not batting, he can be seen boosting the spirits of every player, especially the bowlers and he also involves the Indian supporters in the game by asking them to cheer the team up. There are many incidents that describe Kohli’s jolly side.

But never in his career, he took a toll on the on-field umpire for their decisions in a hilarious way. Kohli is known to defy the odds and he did exactly that by questioning Nitin Menon’s decision.

The visiting Australian team was going strong with 71 runs on the board for the loss of just one wicket. They eased their way to 71 for one in the 35th over when the bowler Ravichandran Ashwin and his teammates including Kohli, appealed for an LBW against the Aussie opener Travis Head. Menon was quick to turn down the appeal.

As Ashwin and others were keen for a review, Rohit Sharma went upstairs, but Head survived the DRS review, as replays concluded that the umpire’s call would stand. After the replay was shown and Ashwin started preparing himself to bowl his next delivery in the over, Kohli, who was standing at first slip, was heard saying: “Main hota toh out hota” (If it was me, it would have been out)

Amusingly, umpire Menon responded with a smile on his face and a thumbs-up signal to the Delhi-based cricketer. This hilarious exchange between Kohli and Menon has gone viral on social media platforms. This incident will go down as one of the most memorable moments in a Test match.

Earlier in the Test, Kohli ended a long wait of 3.5 years to smash his 28th Test century. His innings helped India to take a substantial lead in the penultimate Test and rule out the possibility of Australia’s win. For his marathon innings of 186 runs off 364 balls, Kohli won the Player of the Match award. Playing his 108th Test, Kohli won the match award for the 10th time in his Test career.
