The visiting Australian team was going strong with 71 runs on the board for the loss of just one wicket. They eased their way to 71 for one in the 35th over when the bowler Ravichandran Ashwin and his teammates including Kohli, appealed for an LBW against the Aussie opener Travis Head. Menon was quick to turn down the appeal.
As Ashwin and others were keen for a review, Rohit Sharma went upstairs, but Head survived the DRS review, as replays concluded that the umpire’s call would stand. After the replay was shown and Ashwin started preparing himself to bowl his next delivery in the over, Kohli, who was standing at first slip, was heard saying: “Main hota toh out hota” (If it was me, it would have been out)
IND VS AUS: Centurion Virat Kohli Starred for India
Amusingly, umpire Menon responded with a smile on his face and a thumbs-up signal to the Delhi-based cricketer. This hilarious exchange between Kohli and Menon has gone viral on social media platforms. This incident will go down as one of the most memorable moments in a Test match.
Earlier in the Test, Kohli ended a long wait of 3.5 years to smash his 28th Test century. His innings helped India to take a substantial lead in the penultimate Test and rule out the possibility of Australia’s win. For his marathon innings of 186 runs off 364 balls, Kohli won the Player of the Match award. Playing his 108th Test, Kohli won the match award for the 10th time in his Test career.
