A lot is at stake for the Australian team in the coming two months. With the WTC Finals and the Ashes just around the corner, the preparations have begun. Ahead of the big game, veteran spinner Nathan Lyon spoke about the importance of staying calm in difficult situations. Nathan Lyon acknowledged that the team had panicked in the overseas conditions in India during the Border-Gavaskar trophy. As a result, they faced humiliating losses in the first couple of matches.

Despite the team losing the Border-Gavaskar trophy, Nathan Lyon had a good series with the ball. The veteran spinner surpassed Ravichandran Ashwin and Anil Kumble to become the highest wicket-taker in the bilateral series. Australia will once again play against India in the WTC Finals and by being a senior spinner in the team, Nathan Lyon will have some responsibilities. Nathan Lyon went on to explain that the team’s main focus was paying attention to their own game plans and execution.

He further added that the main bowlers of the team Pat Cummins as well as Mitchell Starc have already started the preparations. Nathan Lyon and his team are the current Ashes champions. In the last series, the veteran spinner picked up 16 wickets in 5 games. However, since then a lot has changed in the England side too. Redefining the way test cricket is played, the current England team looks dangerous right now. “We shouldn’t panic anyway. We panicked in India and we saw what happened. If we can learn from that experience and play our way and our brand it will be okay. If we make sure we have really good plans and stick to them, everything will go okay,” Nathan Lyon said.

Speaking about England’s “redefined” tactics, he added, “I’m not buying into any of that. It’s just us. We have to worry about us. We will be really well planned. And with Pat [Cummins] and Smithy leading us, I think we will be in really good shape. I have been bowling with Mitch [Starc] and Pat over the past couple of weeks, our prep is going really well.”
