According to Ponting, the cricket community would not want a game to end in a tie. So he would advise the two captains to play aggressive cricket and go all out to ensure a victory.

“World Deserves Unbelievably Good Test Match”: Ricky Ponting

“Oh, look. The cricket-loving world deserves an unbelievably good Test match with a result. You know, we don’t want to have a drawn game. So I’d be saying to both captains, Let’s go out there, let’s play good, hard, aggressive Test cricket. If it means that you’re at, if it means that you got to put you or your team on the line to, you know, to potentially lose the game, you give yourself a chance to win the game doing it because I think that’s what everyone that loves the test match wants to see, right?”

Said Ponting in an event organized by Star Sports

The illustrious Australian captain said the supporters deserve a chance to win the game. So the two captains should even risk losing their teams.

Notably, India will play in their second World Test Championship final after losing the opening match against New Zealand. They came in third with a points percentage of 69.2. Only behind New Zealand, who took first place with a points percentage of 70. Narrowly missing out on the opportunity to compete in the inaugural final in 2021. Since several of India’s star players are injured and will miss the major game. Australia appears to have an advantage going into the match. On the other hand, Australia has few injury problems, and many of its players aren’t even participating in the current IPL 2023. So they will be fully rested for the big match.

Ponting believed that, at least as the Test went on, the spinners would influence the result just as much as the pacers. India faced both R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in the inaugural WTC final in June 2021, but when it came down to choosing only one of them, they often selected Jadeja. Australia is likely only going to field Nathan Lyon. However, Todd Murphy is a potential backup.
