WTC Finals: Ricky Ponting Recalls His Recent Conversation With Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli was India’s captain when India reached the finals of the World Test Championship in the 2019-2021 cycle. The Indian player may not be India’s skipper anymore but the impact of Virat Kohli on the team is still important. During the last finals, the player may not have been in his best form but things are different now. Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting recently reflected on his chat with Virat Kohli.
India’s ex-skipper Virat Kohli finally made his test century in the Border-Gavaskar trophy and now during the IPL too. Post the knock last night’s knock, the batter opened up on his technique and explained that with the test match around the corner, he has backed his techniques without trying anything new. This was a noteworthy declaration coming from a man whose strike rate in T20 matches has recently drawn more criticism than ever, often unjustly.

I had a good chat with him (Virat Kohli) about his batting: Ricky Ponting
Ricky Ponting who has always been appreciative of Virat Kohli even during his purple patch mentioned that he met the player last time in Bangalore. During the Royal Challengers Bangalore versus Delhi Capitals match, Virat Kohli scored a quickfire 50 and Ponting’s team was on the losing side. “I caught up with Virat about a month ago when we played them in Bangalore. And I had a good chat with him about his batting and where he was at and his career. And he said to me then that he actually feels like he’s almost back to his absolute best,” he said.
“You probably saw that last night, you know, he’s had a very good IPL and I’m sure he’ll be the prize wicket that all the Australians are looking forward to,” Ricky Ponting added. After speaking about Virat Kohli, the former Australian skipper mentioned that the competition will be between India’s batter and their bowlers. The finals will take place in the Oval from June 7 to June 11. India’s squad has seen some changes with KL Rahul missing and Ajinkya Rahane’s selection. There will be extra pressure on Virat Kohli and his team since India is yet to win an ICC trophy in years.
