Mohammad Siraj has been out of consideration from India’s T20 side after his not-so-great IPL performance. Nonetheless, the seamer has made sure that he performs for the team whenever needed. Mohammad Siraj has been India’s go-to bowler in the longer format since his performance in the last Border-Gavaskar trophy in Australia. Now, Irfan Pathan has lauded the RCB fast bowler and has backed him to be in the ODI World Cup squad.

Irfan Pathan’s comments came after Mohammad Siraj picked up 3 for 30 runs in 5.4 overs. Pathan was questioned by Star Sports’ post-game panel about whether Mohammed Siraj’s performances had improved his case. “From the 50-over World Cup’s perspective, Mohammed Siraj has done everything to say that his name should not be forgotten because he is performing regularly. It is not about this series only, you are regularly seeing that Siraj is giving breakthroughs with the new ball in every series India are playing,” he said.

During the mid-innings break, Mohammad Siraj spoke about his spell. He said, “The ball wasn’t coming out quick enough, and there wasn’t enough swing. So the plan was to bowl stump to stump to keep the pressure from one end, hoping to get wickets and help the other bowlers. KL told me it stopped swinging after one over, so I switched over to hard lengths.” To date in his career, Siraj has played in 18 One Day Internationals and taken 29 wickets at a fantastic economy rate of 4.83. In the 8 T20I games he has participated in, he has recorded 11 dismissals but has also averaged 9.18 runs per over.

So far in the series, Mohammad Siraj has picked up 5 wickets with one match to go. In absence of Jasprit Bumrah, he has emerged as the bowler who has the capability to provide breakthrough early in the innings. The pacer’s performance was crucial in both the games that India won. The last game of the series will take place on January 15. After finishing off the Ind vs SL series, the men in blue will prepare to face the blackcaps before finally playing the much-awaited Border-Gavaskar trophy.
