Tom Moody Praises Speedster Umran Malik

The men in blue are still missing the services of Jasprit Bumrah. Nonetheless, the management is now backing up speedster Umran Malik. Malik’s major standout point is his pace but he can sometimes be expensive. Nonetheless, Umran Malik has shown improvement in his gameplay which can be seen in his recent performances in the Ind vs SL series. Malik had exceptional bowling prowess in the few opportunities he had to perform for India.

The Indian pacer registered a unique record to his name during the first Ind vs SL ODI game. Umran Malik had bowled at a speed of 156 kmph which became the fastest delivery by any Indian bowler. The 23-year-old bowler from Jammu now has the fastest deliveries in IPL, ODIs as well as T20s. Former Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Tom Moody has called Umran Malik a ‘diamond’. The Ex-Australian player was nothing short of praises for the Indian speedster.

“It’s exciting to see the Indian team embracing him and he’s getting the opportunity to play at the highest level. It’s where he is going to do his most amount of learning. Around a high-performance environment, he is continuing to improve, like all fast young fast bowlers, it takes time and you have to be patient. But he’s a rare diamond. You rarely find fast bowlers that bowl 150+ kmph,” Tom Moody said.

The former player was asked his opinion on if or not Umran Malik was ready to play a test match Tom Moody replied otherwise. “At the moment, small steps with regard to his development are important. Indian selectors and coaching team realise that it’s important to integrate him in the T20 and fifty-over game. He’s getting those experience,” he added.

Umran Malik wasn’t a part of India’s T20 World Cup squad that was played in 2022. However, since India’s loss in the tournament, BCCI has expressed the desire to go with a younger side. In ongoing Ind vs SL T20 series, he picked up 7 wickets, and in the 2 ODI games played so far, he has taken 5 wickets with the last match to go. Last Ind vs SL ODI game is at Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday 15 January.
