India Wins the Inaugural Edition of Women’s U19 T20 World Cup
India creates history by defeating England in the inaugural edition of the Women’s U19 T20 World Cup by 7 wickets. India won the prized championship by first bowling England out for 68 in 17.1 overs before returning to chase down the meager mark in 14 overs. With the boys winning the international championship in the Caribbean last year, the victory on Sunday also confirms India’s hegemony at the U-19 level.
Titas Sadhu, Archana Devi, and Prashavi Chopra picked up 2 wickets each. Meanwhile, Mannat Kashyap, Shafali Verma, and Sonam Yadav had 1 wicket each under their belt. After a motivational speech from Neeraj Chopra, India’s Olympic winner javelin thrower, India came out with a particular plan and executed it flawlessly to win the Women’s U19 T20 World Cup. Titas Sadhu was given player of the match for her fantastic 2/6 in 4 overs.

Shafali Verma guides India to the first-ever Women’s U19 T20 World Cup
Women’s U19 T20 World Cup winning captain Shafali Verma said, “The way all the girls are performing and backing each other, so happy. Incredible feeling. Thanks to the staff, the way they have been backing us every day and telling us that we are here for the cup and because of them we are here. All thanks to them. The players have been backing me a lot. Thanks to BCCI for giving me this beautiful team and really happy for winning the cup. She (Shweta Sehrawat) has been excellent and has followed all the plans from the staff. Not just her, Archana, Soumya and I can’t really take the names but they all have been incredible.”
After the victory of the Women’s U19 T20 World Cup, the women in blue will look to win the T20 World Cup in South Africa starting February 10. Grace Scrivens, the captain of England and a superb all-rounder, was crowned Player of the Tournament following a string of great outings with both bat and ball. She concluded the World Cup as the second-highest run-scorer with 293 runs over seven innings, slightly behind India’s opener Shweta Sehrawat. Her stunning 93 was the highest total of the World Cup, and the left-hander passed 50 a total of three times during the season in addition to taking 9 wickets.
