IPL 2022: Indian All-rounder Hardik Pandya is all set for his first leadership role as captain of the Ahmedabad-based Franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Two new teams are inducted into the existing framework and were allowed three draft picks ahead of Mega Auction next month.

The Ahmedabad franchise drafted Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan, and Shubhman Gill as their picks and named Pandya as its captain.

Speaking to Boria Majumdar, a sports journalist, on his show ‘Backstage with Boria’, Pandya spilled the beans about his plans with his new team and his first leadership role. Speaking about his approach in his leadership role, he said:

“For me, my leadership role means I set examples, I set the culture, I set the attitude which the team wants to play with. I want to set the precedent where everything has to be followed. So my way of leadership is making sure that you take the team along.”

He further added:

“So my philosophy is not too complicated, it’s simple. You make sure that everybody is in right spirit, make sure the environment is right, make sure all the players are feeling at home, and eventually all the players fight (for the team). Once they get comfortable, they know what their potential is.”

IPL 2022: Ahmedabad New Captain Hardik Pandya and Injuries

Pandya has had injuries of late and hasn’t really played in his full capacity. He didn’t bowl in the previous season of the IPL and played as a batter in the recently concluded T20 World Cup. Pandya sustained a shoulder injury in the opening game against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup, casting doubts about his availability in the remaining games. He has been training since to overcome his fitness issues. When asked about his fitness and whether he will play as an allrounder or not, Pandya said:

“That’s my plan. I want to play as an all-rounder. My preparation is all about playing as an all-rounder. If something goes bad, then I don’t know. But my preparation, my hard work is all about playing as an all-rounder. “I am feeling good, feeling strong and eventually the time will say what exactly happens.”

Hardik Pandya has been struggling with lower back issues for quite some time. Injury-ridden Pandya was contemplating retirement from cricket’s long-form and had asked not to be considered for selection in Test Cricket. Hence, he was not selected for the tour to South Africa.

Pandya was part of the Mumbai Indians since the start of his career and it will now be exciting to see his new journey as a captain with another franchise. If he flourishes as an allrounder, it will have better future prospects for India in the upcoming T20 World Cup later this year. Read our recent parimatch app review here.
