IPL 2022: Aakash Chopra praised Shardul Thakur for delivering a match-winning stint in the IPL 2022 match between the Delhi Capitals (DC) and the Punjab Kings on Monday (May 16). In his four-over spell, Thakur took 4/36 as PBKS lost by 17 runs after failing to chase down a 160-run target. The prized scalp of Shikhar Dhawan, affectionately known as Gabbar, was among the DC seamer’s four dismissals. Find all ipl teams and IPL 2022 Match predictions here on our site.

Chopra chose Shardul Thakur’s spell as a game-defining effort while assessing the DC-PBKS match in a video posted on his YouTube channel.

“It has to be Lord Thakur. Cometh the hour, cometh the Thakur. The first over was critical, it was the sixth over – Shikhar Dhawan, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, he dismissed both of them in one over. If we see from Sholay’s era, Thakur and Gabbar don’t get along. Gabbar loses this fight and Gabbar lost to Thakur this time as well.”

Thakur’s dismissals of Dhawan and Bhanuka Rajapaksa in the final over of the powerplay were praised by the cricketer-turned-commentator.

“It was a pitch on which you were going towards your spinners for wickets and in such a case if your fast bowler gives you two wickets – clap your hands. “

Thakur had Rajapaksa caught at point by Anrich Nortje while attempting a massive heave to the leg side. The PBKS opener nicked the ball to Rishabh Pant behind the wickets after he shocked Dhawan with an extra bounce from a length. While agreeing that Thakur was a bit expensive, Aakash Chopra emphasized the importance of the wickets he took. Here are more free betting tips and match guides from professional betting tipsters.

“Actually his bowling was there in two phases. It was not that he was not expensive, he gave 36 runs in his four overs but picked up four wickets, his best ever IPL figures.”

Shardul Thakur, according to the 44-year-old, was also essential in putting the finishing touches on the Capitals’ victory.

“At the end, when it seemed that Jitesh Sharma will do the genie job, nothing happened. He (Thakur) dismissed him as well, a good catch from David Warner. Then Kagiso Rabada hit a six and he dismissed him as well. He kept the match in his grasp with the four wickets and helped Delhi win.”

Says Aakash Chopra

Just as the PBKS wicketkeeper-batter appeared to have dragged his side back into the game, Thakur had Jitesh Sharma beautifully caught by David Warner at long-off. He later had Kagiso Rabada caught in the same position by Rovman Powell, effectively ending the game to the Capitals’ advantage.
