IPL 2022 LIVE: It was a bad day at the office for Chennai Super Kings as they registered their second consecutive loss in the Indian Premier League 2022. Playing against Gujarat Titans at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, CSK endured a seven-wicket loss.

CSK’s loss against Mumbai Indians by five wickets had ruled the team out of the playoff race. Thus, the team decided to give a chance to the young brigade to showcase its talent on the 22-yard pitch. MS Dhoni & Men made as many as four changes to their playing XI as they rested the likes of Ambati Rayudu, Robin Uthappa, Dwayne Bravo, and Maheesh Theekshana.

N Jagadeesan, Prashant Solanki, Mitchell Santner, and Matheesha Pathirana were new inclusions to the team for the encounter against the Titans. Winning the toss, MS Dhoni made an unorthodox decision of batting first. The team failed to start well in the league with the bat.

After batting for 20 overs, the defending champions posted 133 runs on the scoreboard. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 53 runs off 49 balls. However, the lack of support from other batters pushed the team to a low score. Chasing 134, Gujarat Titans won the game in 19.1 overs.

Speaking about their ninth defeat in IPL 2022, Dhoni revealed that it was a wrong move to bat first. The captain admitted that the batters weren’t able to hit the fast bowlers properly in the first innings. Are you looking for the most trusted real money IPL betting apps on the go? The former Indian captain suggested that the pitch became relatively flattened in the second innings. Also, he talked about the changes they could have possibly made in their batting order.

“Batting first wasn’t a very good idea. It was tough to hit the faster bowlers in the first half, spinners-wise it was similar. Sai bowled well. We could have pushed Shivam up but would have beaten the purpose of having Jaggi in the side. Had it been earlier in the tournament, it would have been a tactical move to have Shivam in,”

MS Dhoni said during the post-match presentation.

Further in the interaction, the veteran also heaped praises on the debutant Matheesha Pathirana. Sri Lanka seamer made a dream debut in IPL. He picked two wickets in the form of Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya. The youngster conceded only 24 runs in his 3.1 overs at an economy rate of 7.6.

Dhoni believes that Pathirana is a lethal bowler and it is tough to hit against him. The captain also suggested that the team will continue to give more chances to the young people in the team in matches to come.

“With Pathirana, the margin of error is slim. He’s got a good slower one and it will be tough to hit him if he bowls consistent pace. We will look to give people chances. We are trying to feature a good XI and will look to do that in the coming games also,”

the CSK captain concluded.
