Batting first in the game, Kolkata scored 177 runs in their 20 overs. It was a brilliant batting performance by West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell as he smacked 49 runs off just 28 balls. His knock was laced with three boundaries and four maximums.

Chasing the total, Sunrisers Hyderabad were restricted to only 123 runs. The opening batter Abhishek Sharma put in a good performance but his 43-run knock went in vain. Russell continued his exploits with the ball as well as he picked a three-wicket haul.

The 34-year-old scalped three crucial wickets in the form of Kane Williamson, Washington Sundar, and Marco Jansen. Apart from Russell, Tim Southee scalped two wickets while Umesh Yadav, Sunil Narine, and Varun Chakravarthy picked one wicket each.

“When I went out to bat, when they were bowling into the wicket, it was a bit difficult. Our bowling attack pulled them back tonight. The mindset is very clear; I practice to go and do that from ball one.

“The first ball in the nets, I hit for sixes. I get my body ready for any situation; sometimes, it might be tough. You have to tough it out at times and stay till the back end; happy tonight,”

Russell said while speaking in the post-match presentation.

Further in the interaction, Russell opened up on the infamous last over of the first innings that played a major role in their victory. While KKR were looking to give a perfect finish to their batting innings, SRH skipper Kane Williamson made a big blunder by handing the ball to Washington Sundar in the final over.

Russell smacked Sundar for three sixes and two singles to collect 20 runs. The West Indies all-rounder was elated to see the off-spinner bowling him in the final over. Also, following the win against SRH, Russell is hopeful of the Knight Riders reaching the next stage of the competition. Here are more cricket betting odds and scheduled matches for the 2022 season.

“Before the last ball of the 19th over was bowled, I said, ‘Sunil, try and get a boundary, but let me start the over with the spinner.’ Off-spinner to a right-hander, it’s like a kid in the candy shop.

“I got full tosses, and I put it away. Hard work paid off today. Good to contribute in both aspects tonight. I’m just going to keep it going; hopefully, we can qualify,”

Andre Russell concluded.
