IPL 2022 LIVE: The 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League isn’t going as per the plan for Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant. The wicketkeeper-batter is struggling with his form with the bat. In eight matches so far, he has scored only 190 runs at a strike rate of 149.

Meanwhile, the batter is also facing criticism for his decision and strategies as a captain on the match field. Delhi Capitals impressed in their last game against Kolkata Knight Riders after recording a defeat by four wickets. It was a fine performance by the bowlers that steered the team to victory.

Though DC added two crucial points to their name, a lot of cricket pundits and analysts were unhappy with the rotation of bowlers. Kuldeep Yadav was the star performer for his team as he picked four wickets in three overs while bowling at an economy rate of 4.7.

Despite a dream spell, Pant didn’t hand him the ball for his fourth over. The DC skipper trusted Lalit Yadav more with the job who conceded 32 runs in his three overs without any wicket. The decision proved costly for the Capitals as Lalit was hammered for a lot of runs by Nitish Rana.

Amidst the criticism, former Indian women’s coach WV Raman has come in support of the youngster. The veteran backed the Delhi Stalwart to lead India in the future. However, Raman also admitted that Pant is still on a learning curve and has a lot to improve when it comes to leadership.

“Rishabh Pant has a great cricketing mind, but he is on a learning curve; and the last couple of years who has been working on his keeping and fitness and has shown remarkable improvement. I believe Rishabh Pant will go on and captain the national side, and as to when, we will wait and see. For now, he has to learn the ropes in the next one and two years as far as captaincy is concerned,”

WV Raman said as quoted by cricket.com.

Further in the interaction, the former head coach also talked about Delhi’s middle order. The team has an aggressive opening pair of David Warner and Prithvi Shaw who have been consistently scoring runs for the team. However, the same can’t be said for the middle order.

In their match against KKR, Delhi quickly went from 82 for three to 84 for five. The team looked in trouble even while chasing a low total of 147 runs. It was the 24-run knock by the spinner Axar Patel that won Delhi the match by four wickets.

“I think they will need to give a bit of thought about their middle-order and how it is going to shape up. They look like a well-balanced side, and the important thing is what happens at an advanced stage when the openers fail,”

Raman said.

WV Raman speaks about KKR’s poor performance against Delhi Capitals

Speaking about Kolkata Knight Riders, the veteran cricketer added that KKR were 20-25 runs short against Delhi Capitals. Raman believes that the team needs to look into their batting line-up and make amends to get going in the league.

“I think there were enough runs on this wicket, and KKR were definitely 20-25 runs short, and that was due to them losing wickets at regular intervals. Nobody got going, and it came to a stage where Shreyas Iyer had to play well within himself in a T20 game, but the onslaught by Nitish Rana towards the end of the innings with some help from Rinku Singh helped them put up a fight.”

WV Raman concluded.
