IPL 2022 Live: Kevin Pietersen, the former captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore, has stated that the Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians had been the season’s biggest disappointments. He also stated that following the auctions, he did not believe Gujarat Titans would have such a successful IPL season. However, he now believes they can go all the way.

The former England captain predicted that GT, RR, or DC will win the race. While DC is yet to hit their stride this season, RR and GT have consistently been among the top two teams.

“At the moment, it looks like Gujarat Titans are going to be difficult to stop in the IPL. They are consistently finding ways to win, whether from a good, middling, or bad position in games. When you have that winning mentality, it becomes very difficult to break. I didn’t see them being at the top of the table when I first saw their squad, but they are on a roll. It reminds me of Rajasthan Royals when they won the title under Shane Warne in 2008 — they weren’t the best side on paper but everybody knew what they were doing and they had a great mentality. When you’re winning like that, the energy in the dressing room is so positive.”

IPL 2022 LIVE: Kolkata Knight Riders And Mumbai Indians Have Been Disappointing Teams For Me This Season: Kevin Pietersen

IPL 2022 Live: Kevin Pietersen Names Three Teams Who Can IPL 2022 Edition
IPL 2022 Live: Kevin Pietersen Names Three Teams Who Can IPL 2022 Edition

Gujarat, along with Lucknow Super Giants, were the two new teams to enter the IPL this year, and they’ve had a great start to the 2022 edition, winning seven of their first eight games to rise to the top of the table. Lucknow and Rajasthan Royals are tied for second place, two points behind the leaders, while Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore are in the playoff hunt.

The Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders have all lost more games than they have won this season, while the Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians have had poor starts.

Super Kings, the defending champions, have only four points out of a possible 16, while Mumbai, the five-time champions, are yet to win in eight games and are on the verge of breaking a number of unwelcome records. Kolkata Knight Riders were one of the early pacesetters in the IPL, winning three of their first four games, but Brendon McCullum’s side has subsequently lost five games in a row.

“I know that Mumbai Indians are having a shocker, but KKR is also in a dreadful way. They’ve used 19 players so far, which is far too many. For a franchise as big as them, it’s just a horrible state of affairs.”
