IPL 2022 LIVE: David Warner is one of the best batters in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. And his statistics speak for themselves. The Australian southpaw is part of a small group of batters who can score runs quickly and with remarkable consistency. He’s been great in the ongoing IPL 2022, and the Delhi Capitals will be ecstatic with his performance.

While Warner is now familiar with the IPL’s procedures, the situation was not the same back then. In 2009, the Australian dasher made his IPL debut for DC (formerly Delhi Daredevils), however, he didn’t score many runs. Warner struggled with discipline that season, according to former Indian and DC opener Virender Sehwag. And he chastised the team management as well.

Last year, Warner was embroiled in a major controversy when the Sunrisers Hyderabad team management fired him midway through the season and replaced him with Kane Williamson. The opener was even dropped from the playing XI, and SRH received a lot of flak for that. Despite this, the 35-year-old has returned to the DC camp and is making his bat speak.

We Kept David Warner Out of the Team and Won as Well: Virender Sehwag

Warner was also sent home after a fight with a couple of fellow DC players, according to Sehwag.

“I too have vented out my frustrations on a couple of players and David Warner was one of them. Because when he had joined newly, he partied more than believing in practice or playing matches. In the first year, he had a fight with a few players so we sent him back for the last two matches. Sometimes it happens that you keep someone out to teach them a lesson.

said Sehwag on Cricbuzz

He was new so it was important to show him that you alone are not important for the team, others are too. There are other players who can play and win the match for the team too. And that’s what happened. We kept him out of the team and won as well.”

Virender Sehwag made his debut for India in 1999, and by the time he retired 15 years later in 2014, he had played with a wide range of cricketers. Sehwag had the opportunity to share the dressing room with some of the best players Indian cricket had to offer, from opening the batting alongside his idol Sachin Tendulkar to being captained by MS Dhoni and stitching partnerships with Virat Kohli. From the time he captained the Delhi Capitals (previously the Daredevils) till his final season with Punjab Kings (formerly Kings XI Punjab) in 2015, Sehwag shared the dressing room with several world-class international sportsmen in the Indian Premier League.
